Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Salam R.A - The Wudhu Socks Personality of the Month

Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Salam, bearing the birth name of Al-Husayn Ibn Salaam, is one of the most sacred of revered personalities whose name will always glitter with devotion to Islam, Allah and the Prophet (S.A.W) across the pages of Islamic history.

Hazrat Abdullah was a very faithful and constant companion of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W). Born and raised in a Jewish household located within the tribe of Banu Qaynuqa, he later converted to Islam and died as a stout Muslim. He always had a keen interest in literature which explains the fact that in the former part of his life before conversion to Islam, he used to be a scholar of the Book of Torah and deciphered the signs indicating Muhammad S.A.W as the harbinger of God’s religion to the land of the Arabs, which stirred an emotional bubble of anticipation and excitement in his faith.

He met the Holy Prophet upon His (S.A.W) migration from Mecca to Medina and was very much astonished by his preaching and perspective about God and everyday life affairs. After his conversion, he aided the Prophet (S.A.W) in propagating the religion to the elite of the Jewish community residing in Medina.

He was one of the very few chosen companions of the Prophet (S.A.W), who received the glad tidings of being inducted into the heaven while still alive and that too from the Prophet’s divine lips. This shows how much he meant to the Prophet (S.A.W).

The Qur'an also implicitly mentions Abdullah ibn Salam, "Say, 'Have you considered: if the Qur'an was from Allah, and you disbelieved in it while a witness from the Children of Israel has testified to something similar and believed while you were arrogant?' Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people" (Qur'an, 46:10). Tafsir al-Jalalayn mentions in its exposition of this verse that the "witness" in the verse refers to Hazrat Abdullah ibn Salam (R.A) .

Hazrat Abdullah participated wholeheartedly in the Islamic conquests of Syria and Palestine, two lands of crucial religious essence to the Muslims worldwide. This ardent example of Islamic faith and spirit died in 43 AH in Madinah.
